Journalism ethics, which is related to each link of journalistic practice, has a universal significance. Actually, it has been affecting every aspect of this complicated profession, not only journalists, but also the public. As an important tool for keeping relationship between media and public balanced, journalism ethics runs through journalistic practice. The more developed the journalism is, the more complicated the conflict of interior and exterior media environment will be. Meanwhile, the more important this problem of ethics is. Ethics do not consist primarily in the application of a formal set of rules but in the maintenance of a responsible attitude in exercise of journalistic duties.Sweden is considered to be the first country to formulate journalism regulations worldwide, and the first one to practice press self-regulation as well. As early as in 1916, the Court of Honor was founded in Sweden. That makes it the oldest tribunal of its kind in the world. Freedom of the press has been guaranteed effectively and solidly by law and society. Code of ethics, as an important part of the self-regulation mechanism, has played an active role in Swedish press. On one hand, its implementation relies on journalists' understanding and voluntary practice. On the other hand, its advancement and evolution ties to public opinion and monitoring of the self-regulation organs. Practice of journalism ethics in Sweden has a positive meaning for us for reference. As far as I concern, most of current research focus on journalism ethics itself, and discourse upon relative theories, or analysis of cases. USA, UK, etc, these big powers have attract much attention while thesmall ones can hardly be concerned. Moreover, principles of ethnics and institutional economics are hardly used in ready academic achievements in analyzing the establishment and development of journalism ethics in a country. This thesis tries to display the theme from multi-perspectives by multi-subjects. Perspectives contain theory of neo-institutional economics, utilitarianism, etc. Expertise of philosophy, economics and social psychology are excerpted in the text.Method of text analysis is used in the paper. Plentiful datum will be cited and cleared out, while moderate evaluation will be made. Besides, method of case study will be used to deepen theme through analysis of specific cases. This thesis will try to achieve two goals as follows. First, summarize how journalism ethics came into being and developed; what's its relationship with political environment, historical background and institutional guarantee, etc. Secondly, realize the importance and significance of the code of ethics through ethical cases, and provide reference for our construction of journalism ethics in China.
