Ethics is a science focusing on morality. News media, as a part of social life, is also under an obligation to Ethnics. For the purpose of that, the code of ethics was set up.The paper summarizes the history and the text of the code of ethics in Australian press media and presents an analytical study of the Operational mechanism. In Australia, self-regulation organs mainly include The Australian Press Council, the Australian Journalists' Association and the Australian Broadcasting Authority. By receiving and dealing with much complaint from the public and bringing the code of ethics to maturity, self-regulation organs perform effectively in resisting threats to the freedom of the press and balance the press freedom, individual's right and public opinion.The paper also evaluates factors that weaken effectiveness of the self-regulation bodies and their code of ethics, including time taken to deal with complaints, extent of awareness of the complaints process and Limited powers of the AJA and so on.Race, fact plus fairness and privacy are the ethic problems that linger on the Australian news media. By analyzing the problems, the paper represents the possibility and the manner solving them.Text analysis, case study and comparative study are adopted in the paper.
