Situation and potential deployment prospect of wireless communication used in industrial environments are introduced and the existing problems are pointed out. Current wireless communication protocols, physical techniques and embedded real-time system are briefly analyzed. The thesis goes first with considering how to satisfy real-time requirements of industrial field, and a brand-new communication protocol frame applicable to the wireless industrial control network is proposed. The protocol defines structure of control packets and data packet in detail, and specifies the rules of how to build of and maintain the network. For analyzing performance of the protocol, a free discrete events simulator tool named 0MNeT++ was used. Further, we analyzed the protocol contrasting with the CSMA (Carrier Sensing Multiple Access) protocol. Subsequently, the proposed WICN protocol was compared with the currently popular low-cost and low-power protocol ZigBee.For verifying the proposed protocol, the following part analyzes which type of electrical products, integrated in to WICN platform, is suitable to be used in industrial environment. Advanced wireless communication chip nanoNET TRX made in Nanotron Technologies Company form Germany and a high-performance microcontroller ATmega128 made from Atmel Company were adopted to implement the high-performance and cost effective WICN hardware platform. Afterwards, the embedded real-time system TinyOS is used to build of the WICN specified software platform. In the specified platform, many components like those which implement the control of nanoNET TRX transceiver and thermometer DS18B20 are programmed. In the end, this thesis gives a simple application in temperature acquisition using the WICN platform with the embedded real-time system TinyOS.The thesis shows that the embedded WICN platform based on the ATmega128 microcontroller has the characteristics of low-cost, simplicity, easiness to extend and high-adaptability in the applications, and is a valuable reference to how to build of wireless network in industrial field.
