With the development of Optical Communication technology, kinds of optical network technologies are widely used in the fields. Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM), as one of the main bearer technologies in the Backbone and Metro Networks, plays an important role to extend the bandwidth of optical communication path. Coarse Wavelength Division Multiplexing (CWDM), with the advantages of low cost, low power and small size, is widely used in the construction of Metro Network. But, with extending the scope of application and environment of CWDM, the shortage of CWDM is revealed:The Commercial temperature range of CWDM can not be used in some places,which are with wider temperature range, especially in some extreme areas. The bottleneck is the working temperature range of Optical Transceiver.Based on it, a new method to extend the working temperature range of CWDM laser from Commercial range to Industrial range is proposed in this paper, meanwhile, a new design of SFP(Small Form Factor Pluggable) Transceiver is promoted, with the key characters ---the data rate can be up to 2.5Gbps,the reach can be up to 80km and with the small package. Further more, the analysis of background technologies, the whole designs, the study of key issues and other aspects are discussed detailed in this paper. The main work of research includes:1) By studying the Current status of CWDM Optical Communication Technology, the existing problems are discussed, then the solutions are proposed;2) By researching the WDM technology and the common technologies of Optical Transceiver, the selection scheme and design of Industrial Temperature (I-temp) CWDM Optical Transceiver are promoted;3) To get the whole design of I-temp CWDM Optical Transceiver, more research works are carried out including the requirements analysis, the outline design, characteristics design, key components, reliability and safety design.To realize the design to product, the hardware, structure, software and process of ?-temp CWDM Optical Transceiver are discussed briefly.4) The three key issues, the wavelength shift and compensation over temperature, the long fiber transmission and the signal integration of high speed signals, and the methods are discussed detailed in this paper. By comparing the test datas of this solution with other's, the advantages and disadvantages of this solution are analyzed.In conclusion, a new solution,which is with the low cost and high quality design,is promoted to make the CWDM transceiver can work under Industrial temperature range and transmit signals longer in the fiber. It is helpful to expand the application of CWDM transceiver in the fields.
