Cable and the Ethernet was empoldered for the oddments and occasionally stoppages in the 70s of the 20century. But the IEEE802.3 standard was empoldering based on the original Ethernet technologies. Now, the Ethernet includes all the local area networks which use the CMSA/CD protocol. The 2.0 edition Ethernet was empoldered by the digital company, intel and the Xerox company, it's compatible with the IEEE802.3.Design procedures designing ASCI adopt FPGA to design that the aether net controller replace tradition originally, main cause lies in FPGA technology characteristic , it makes a circuit customarily but appears as one kinds of half in special use IC (ASIC) field, now that having resolved the custom circuit deficiency, have overcome the limited shortcoming of cause period door circuit weave Cheng number. Make the product designing that originally very nimble , can be various in various consumer developing platform , be put into use under hardware environment but be needed to be OK to designing the simple modification being in progress and editing, convenient designer and consumer sigmatism.This thesis elaborate how to use the FPGA design the Ethernet controller and to discuss the differences between the FPGA and the ASIC. The major content is:1. Introduce the development of the FPGA, and it's actuality, future.2. Introduce how to design the Ethernet controller with FPGA technology, includes the module design and the code design.3. Simulate the code to get the wave chart, use the software Modelsim then analyse the chart.4. Compare the FPGA and ASIC, point out the excellences and the disadvantages both of them.
