Based on the idea of knowledge reuse in KBE, researching and developing in parts library can spare the unnecessary, mechanical and repeated effort in research, and researchers can make good use of the standard parts, common parts and the original design program in parts library; thus more concentration can be put on the originality and functions of the products. Along the way we can promote the efficiency and creativity of the products as a whole. Therefore the research and development of library system plays a significant role both in the developments and applications of the CAD technology and the virtual prototyping.This thesis is a probe into the 3-dimentional parameterized parts library based on the functional analysis of the parts library, synthesizing such technological means as the second development of CAD and feature modeling, database, and parametric design, etc.The main content includes several parts as follows.1. Intensively study the tool of the second development of Pro/ E, namely, Pro/Toolkit application program interface, making clear its feature, programming style, and the operation of application program. Learn thoroughly about the uses of the real handle, object choosing, access functions and the data types in application program, laying foundation for developing application program.2. Establish various parameterized models of standard parts, according to the feature modeling in Pro/E; using the technique of how to design and activate user-defined menus of Pro/Toolkit, define the developing interface; with the help of MFC and Pro/Toolkit, design some complex dialog box interfaces that users demand but can not be solved only by Pro/Toolkit; furthermore, achieve the interface design of the system; settle the communications problem between Pro/E and VC.3. Theoretically analyze the functions and the systematic structure of the library system, more emphasis on the organizing and storing of the data and the relationships between the components that constitute the parts library. Along the way put forward the whole frame of the 3-dimentional parts library. 4. In the design and the realization of the parts library, adopting the way of object-oriented modeling and design, effectively solve the problem that in parts library many parts are various in kinds and have complex links; thus the data structure becomes more clear and easy to expand.5. Introduce the principle of mechanism of parametric map and its realization in parts library. Delicately expound the method of picking up, mapping and editing of and between the parameters in parameterized parts.
