The development of modern technology gives birth to the booming of the online game, which makes it possible for the flourishing of the digital entertainment. In the view of communication theory, it has become a part of the media communication little by little. Integrated with many symbols such as text, photo, audio, video, and enjoyed with many audiences, online game has delivered many affects to economy, culture, society and education. And, it has proposed some new issues for the theory of the functions for communication. The paper has delivered that online game is a kind of new media and it has catered for the development of culture entertainment industry in the new era. Not only it has brought the pleasure for the audience, but also it has delivered a widespread and profound influence for communication in such fields as economy, culture, education and the society. Its influences to the society also satisfied with the positive and negative theory of media communication function. Then, how does the online game perform both in the positive and negative sides and how could we regulate it for establish a harmonious and wholesome online game industry is the core of my paper.This paper consists of four parts.Firstly, this paper has discussed the features, the essence and the history of the online game in the view of media. Then, it delivered the research meaning for this paper. Secondly, the paper has outlined the theory of communication functions, in order to pave the way for the research of online communication functions. The second and the third part is the frame of the article. It has discussed the communication functions of online game both on the positive and the negative points. Finally, the paper proposes some suggestions for how to weaken its negative influence and how to develop its positive influence for the online game industry. |
