With rapid development of CATV network in China, the size becoming larger and larger and the interface of digital TV, data, voice, wide-band internet services, it will be a uniform and interconnect wide-band information network. The problems of CATV network in many aspects such as operation, management, benefit, reliability etc have become a focus of discussion in more and more network service providers. Management of CATV network is nearly zero comparing to Telecom at present China, the distance is big and apparent. There is no function of network management over 95% CATV network, so the cost of network maintenance is higher and higher, subscribers have more and more complaint and doubt because we can't find and solve the troubles of network in time. Network management of HFC in the field of broadcast and television is a main project of information construction in our nation, network management system which is satisfied to the management standard of broadcast and television network is be to a better prospect, more and more services providers will pay more attention on its affect. All in all, it is necessary to found a network management system adapting the development direction of HFC network.This paper shows us an optical transmission devices network management system based on HMS standard according to situation of Jinan CATV bi-direction HFC network. This system could complexly manage optical transmission devices outside plant (optical work station) and optical transmission devices in CATV room (optical device shelves, optical transmitter, optical receiver).Its main function is to monitor and control the communication of management devices, collect, store, search, account many kinds of data from management devices. It could lock the position of trouble and analysis its reason within a short time when the system alarms, then decrease time of solving trouble and affected scope as possible as it can. Design of the system is one key point in this paper. It introduces the whole design in six aspects: construction of the system, link structure of the system, choice of modulator method, centre frequency configuration of up channel and down channel in the system, output level adjusting of up channel and down channel in the system, choice of communication protocol.Research of design of soft and hard devices in the system is another main part in the paper. The system mainly has four parts: headed equipment controller (HE), link agent (Link Agent), end transponder (NE) and network management operation soft. It uses many kinds of techniques such as DDS, DSP, FPGA, FEC, calculator of POLLING with ALOHA in hard devices, and uses WEB, CORBA, SQL techniques in soft program. This paper mainly introduce the research of DSP software system which applicates in HE and NE.The optical transmission device network management system based on HMS standard in CATV bi-direction HFC network is a system safe, reliable, real-time and convenient in operation, it is worth to be applied and spread widely. Meantime, it has good social benefit and economic benefit.
