A novel specific chip for electronic card exchange and management which adopts infrared wireless data communication technology was proposed. The system architecture and some critical circuit blocks are presented in this paper. In modern society, with the progress of economy, people have to exchange and manage a lot of business cards. Because of its own disadvantages, the paper card is gradually replaced by electronic card. So in this paper, a specific chip for E-card exchange and management was proposed. Point-to-point infrared wireless communication technology and SOC (System-On-Chip) design methodology are adopted in this chip. The mix-signal circuit design is based on standard 0.6um CMOS technology. This chip adopts IrDA1.0 standard, supports a transmitting speed of 115.2kbps and a transmitting distance of 20cm~30cm., the codec circuit adopts 3/16 channel PPM (Pulse-position Modulate). The analog circuit is designed to receive and transmit infrared signal and the digital circuit is designed to manage the E-card information. In order to improve the performance of the front-receiver, a novel anti-noise structure is adopted which can greatly improve the sensitivity of the front-receiver. RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computer) is used in the data processing module to improve the efficiency of E-card management. An experimental version of the chip has been implemented in a standard 0.6um CMOS mix-signal technology process (double well, double poly, double metal). The testing chips are two die of 4mm~2 including infrared signal transceiver and E-card information manager respectively. Both of the chips are tested. Test results show that the expected specifications are achieved.
