Wireless Infrared Communication Technology is used for low-cost, short-range, high-speed wirless digital communication. With very simple transceivers, high-efficient Infrared links can be achieved. IrDA protocol established by Infrared Data Association has become the standards for millions of devices to communicate mutually. In order to solve the communiction between Intelligent Instruments, after studying the basic theory of Wireless Infrared Communication and the IrDA protocol, a General Infrared Communication Interface (abbr. GIRCI) based on the MCU is developed in this paper. GIRCI is up to the IrDA standard, supporting the UART I/O transmission, and can be integrated with devices and instruments as an additional module easily. In this paper, the detail scheme of hardware and software development is discussed, including the development of the state machine of IrDA protocol and the application of using GIRCI in the White-balance Measurement Instrument. Finally, some more applications based on GIRCI are mentioned.
