Airborne radar indicates all kinds of radars fixed in planes. It is the mainreconnaissance equipment to detect or trace the target to ensure the safety for planes inflight. As a real-time display application of radar image, it provides an importantplatform for man-machine conversation. Radar display is a special display device whichdenotes and ensures the existence and orientation of the tagets in forms of signalamplitude, brightness or graphics.Cathode Ray Tube (CRT) used to be adopted in taditional radar display. However,the disadvantages of CRT radar display, such as the huge electricity consumption, thecolor inhomogeneity and high electromagnetic radialization, triggered the expectationfor a low consume, long duration, high brightness, high resolution, vivid color, lowradialization. It is necessary to introduce LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) to the radardomain because it contains all the advantages mentioned above and its application isincreasing rapidly. Consequently, an alarm airborne radar display is designed andproduced in this essay.The characteristics of Liquid Crystal and applications in displays are presentedsummarily. The principle and driver technology of LCD is also introduced; especiallythe display and driver principle of TFT-LCD. Based on some new progress in LCDresearch field, the design originally used LCD incision technology, pixel extractedtechnology and AC driving technology on gating circuits.The designed radar display can show 262K kinds of colors and the brightness canbe above 1000 cd/m~2. Based on the square structure, using TFT-LCD screen which hashigh resolution, large tempature range, employing original designed high brightnessLED solid back light source, adopting original designed TCON unit to control andprocess signal and Gamma controller unit to adjust system contrast and brightness.Based on radar displays' actual requirements and development, using commonARM and FPGA/CPLD chips and QUARTUSâ…ˇ6.0 to do the software design andsimulation, adopting digital technology, combining the most updated computertechnology, the design has completed the radar's digital video signal collection, storage,processing and eventually diaplayed the correct image on the screen.
