Marine tank Level Monitoring System (MTLMS) is an important component of Marine Automation. 。 It's main function is monitoring and controlling the statement and parameters of tank Level, and it can also indicate, alarm and record them at the same time. The safety navigation of the shipping is directly influenced by the reliable working of the system. The earliest Marine tank Level Monitoring System is mainly composed by relay and semiconductor, which is not fit for the development of engine room Automation. and the requirement of IMO and classification society. Based on the conception of CAN (Control Area Network) among field bus, I designed a MTLMS which has so many advantages such as high communication rates, high reliability, easy connection, high rates of performance and price, etc. the system is very suitable for bottom monitoring and controlling.Industry Field Bus is an advanced technology in industry control, which rose in the beginning of 1990's. It is the latest open network control system which is fully digital, fully distributed, fully open, internal-operated. It is also the integration of the technology of 3C (Computer, Communication and Control). CAN is a serial communication network which supports distributed control or real-time control effectively. CAN is developed rapidly owing to its excellent characteristic and high reliability. Now CAN protocol is defined as the standard of ISO1898 by ISO.According to the actual condition of vessel and all electric-mechanical equipments in engine room, the writer designed the ERAMCS (Engine Room Alarm/Monitoring Control System) which used the conception of CAN and accorded with the requirement of main classification society and IMO (International Maritime Organization). This paper expounded the components and function of ERAMCS, mainly detailed the whole design, hardware design, interface between PC and CAN, software design and alarming database design. This paper introduced the construction and development of LAN on board also. The writer tried to design the ERAMCS with the conception of efficiency, accuracy, real-time network and information idea, and wanted to farthest ensure the safety of vessel, crews and cargo.
