Engine Room Alarm/Monitoring System is a important part of automation system on board, it's main function is to monitor & control working status and data of electrical and mechanical equipments, at the same time it indicate, alarm, control and record accordingly. The reliability is directly influenced with safety navigation. The first generation system is based on relay or semiconductor which is not fit with development of above system now and requirement of IMO and classification society. This paper design system with the conception of CAN among field bus ,it has so many advantages such as high communication speed, high reliability, easy to connect and high rates of characteristic and price, so it is suitable for bottom monitoring and control in industry.Field Bus is advanced industry control technology which rised in the beginning of 1990's. It is the latest control system which is fully digital, distribute, open, internal-operated and open network system. Also it is integrated with technology of computer, communication and control( 3C ). CAN is used originally for automobile monitoring and control by Bosch company of German.. It is serial communication network which efficiently support distributed control or real-time control ,because of excellent characteristic and high reliability, it is developed rapidly. Now CAN protocol is stipulated as the standard of ISO 11898 by ISO.According to the requirement of main classification society and International Maritime Organization(IMO), the paper detail-expound components and function of Engine Room Alarm/Monitoring Control System, major in whole system design, key-hardware design, interface between PC and CAN, system software and alarm data base etc., based on actual condition of vessel and all electric-mechanical equipments in engine room. Also the paper introduce the construction and development of LAN on board. According todescription enclosed, writer try to design the E/R Alarm/Monitoring Control System with concept of efficiency .accuracy, real-time network and information idea, Max. ensure the safety of vessel, crews and cargo.
