With the rapid development of science and technology, the infrared thermal imager has been more and more used, and has shown a large market potential and a bright future. But now the imaging quality is always not satisfying because of the limitation of infrared detector, which restricts the application of the infrared thermal imager in practice. The image process unit is one of the most important parts in the infrared thermal imager. The quality of the output video depends on it greatly.In this paper, we discussed the output characters of the uncooled IRFPA (infrared focus panel array). Based on that, we have studied and tried many algorithms for infrared image, a minitype infrared thermal imager was build. The key chips of this imager are RAMS and a FPGA. The algorithms applied in this imager such as histogram equalization,2D-TDI, non-uniformity correction, blind pixel compensation and a friendly man-machine interface are realized with Verilog. In addition, the experiences in system design and debug are summarized and analyzed, and I hope the experiences in timing design are helpful.
