With the rapid development of science and technology, the infrared thermal imager has been more and more used, and has shown a large market potential and a bright future. But now the imaging quality is always not satisfying because of the limitation of infrared detector, which restricts the application of the infrared thermal imager in practice. So it is the most economical and effective way of adding the real-time image processing function in processing part of the infrared thermal imager.In this paper, based on the analysis of characteristics of infrared image, algorithms for infrared image real-time processing are proposed, and a real-time infrared image processing system is designed. The system is based on FPGA structure, establishes the system scheme and the detailed circuit architecture. Various algorithms such as histogram equalization, sharpening, 2D-TDI, non-uniformity correction, blind pixel compensation etc are realized successfully by hardware system. In addition, the system design and debug experiences are summarized and analyzed in detail.
