Tan Zhenduo The Contribution Of Chinese Classical Literature

Zheng Zhenduo was not only one of the initiative leaders in Chinese New Culture Movement, but also one of the most important scholars in collecting and perserving of Chinese Classics philology; on the other hand he was also a famous writer and an outstanding scholar in many fields. With his profound knowledge of Chinese traditional culture, he had grown up to be creative minded which made him become one of the typical characters in the transitional period of old and new cultures in China. In October 1958, he died unexpected in the aircraft accident .Because of the historical limitation, the relative research of Zheng and his works has started very late and remained a tentative stage. Compared with his great achievement, the studies of his writing, of his academic research as well as his significance in culture exchange have still remained a very low level and even untouched. This thesis has explored his achievement in literature philology, in edition and bibliography and in literature history study. This thesis has consisted of five parts.Part I has analyzed the development of his academic thought, and summed up the present research of the same field in China. He had lived in a particular period when the west and the east had clashed strongly. Being a traditional intellectual, he had developed to be open minded and tried to absorb these two different cultures whose attitude could not be separated from his self-taught experience and his diligence as well as his honesty and passion.Part II has stated his achievement, his thought of books collection and his idea of versions. He has achieved great progress in ethic philology and conservation with his new and particular thought.
