Data collection systems are widely used in the fields of research, education, industry, irrigation, medicine, and freight flow control. The traditional data collection systems collect data through data collection cards, and process data with PCs or industry control computers. This traditional data collection scheme has the disadvantages of difficult installation, in-case interference, limited computer interface slots, addresses, and interrupt resources. Along with the development of Digital Signal Processor (DSP) and interface communication technologies, data collection systems are now getting simpler, faster, more portable, and easier to use. In this paper we proposed a high-speed data collection system based on the DSP and Universal Serial Bus (USB) technologies, which can be used for information card based data acquisition. We will describe the comprehensive design method for this system, give solutions to the technical problems and difficulties incurred in the process of system design and implementation, and go into the details of the implementation method of each system function. Our discussion emphasizes on the characteristics and applications of the TI DSP TMS320F2812 chip, but we also give the methods to improve the precision of the internal A/D converter, as well as describing the working principle, characteristics, and implementation methods of the USB interface. Finally, we briefly depict how to solve the problems related to EMC.According to the requirements of system design, our system adopts the TMS320F2812 chip as the main control component. The TMS320F2812 chip is a 32-bit high performance DSP that features 150MIPS instruction processing speed, 12-bit and 16-channel high speed A/D module, pipeline operation, and multiplex PWM that controls all kinds of motors. We use this DSP chip for data collection/processing, and motor/circuit controlling. The Philips PDIUSBD12 chip, which is compliant to the USB 1.1 protocol, is adopted for the system USB interface circuits. The data collected by the system is preprocessed and uploaded to the PC, and then processed by the software in top layers .The system also includes motor control circuit, memory circuit and other peripheral circuits. The system functions include: 40 channel high-speed data collection, USB1.1 interface, hot plugging, rates up to 12Mbps and multi-card continuous data...
