The booming of documentary television programs calls for development and reform in terms of television environments. The function of television is shifting from pure news media to a comprehensive mass media of service. It is a common sense and practice shared by many producers of documentary television programs to manage the production of documentary television programs from the perspective of market and production. Although the topic of marketing of documentary television programs in China has been widely discussed in the field of television, there are still lots of work on further analyses and researches in the marketing of documentary television programs to be done. In order to provide theoretical basis for the realization of the marketing of documentary television programs in China, the present thesis describes the present state of the development of the marketing of documentary television programs, generally analyzes the production, circulation, and consumption of documentary television programs, discusses the advantages by which the marketing of documentary television programs in China is realized, and further analyzes the production of documentary television programs on theoretical level from the following three perspectives: a) the perspective of macro organization form of the production of documentary television programs as an industry, b) the perspective of characteristics of documentary television programs as information production, c) the perspective of realization of the values of documentary television programs. Besides, the present thesis concludes the useful exploration in the current practice of the marketing of documentary television programs through comparative study and case study of the examples at home and abroad. The present thesis also analyzes the obstacles in the process of the marketing of the documentary television programs in China from the perspective of industrialization, and proposes corresponding elusion methods and solution strategies so as to promote the development of the marketing of documentary television programs.
