This master's degree thesis firstly introduces and discusses the principle of synchronization in SFN (Single Frequency Network) based on DVB-T focusing on some key points, then presents a design of SFN time synchronization system based on FPGAs, including the modules of SFN adapter after the MPEG-2 re-multiplexer and SYNC system serving as the front-side of the DVB-T modulator at transmitters.A design of system level is presented in this thesis according to the function of the SFN adapter and SYNC system. Simulations are executed in Altera's Quartus II environment with Altera's Stratix family FPGAs using verilog HDL after analysis. The results show that the SFN adapter can properly insert MIP into transport stream and the time to be delayed in SYNC system can be correctly calculated and carried out with FIFO. Another simulation of time synchronization between two transmitters is also implemented by means of replacing the distribution network with two delay modules to test the function of the unite and the result shows that the design presented in this thesis is correct and feasible.The design in this thesis doesn't aim to realize all the functions of SFN adapter and SYNC system but to focus on the core function to validate the feasibility. Although, this design is still an implementation of the product and can be easily upgraded to have more specifications. The research in this thesis has great market value.
