LTE (Long Term Evolution) is one of mainstream technology of the fourth-generationmobile communication, which has been treated as a long term feasibility study andstandardization work of the third mobile communication by the3GPP organization. LTE getsmost widely support and participation by global carriers and equipment supplier. LTE system isbased on OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) technology and MIMO(Multiple Input Multiple Output) technology.LTE is based on OFDM techniques because of OFDM system’s spectrum’s inherentflexibility and attractive implementation potential. Those advantages, however, are stronglydepending on the accurateness of synchronization. Therefore, before the OFDM signaldemodulation must complete at least two synchronization works. First, it is necessary to find theboundary of the OFDM symbol and the optimum sampling time, so that the inter-symbolinterference (ISI) and the inter-carrier interference (ICI) Minimum. Then, it is necessary toaccurately estimate the carrier offset.In this paper, the downlink initial synchronization of the TD-LTE system has beensystematically researched and gives the entire synchronization process and algorithm based onthe search of present OFDM synchronization algorithms. By using the characteristic of primarysynchronization signal (PSS), the synchronization algorithm is conduct by direct slidingcorrelation detection, which can find the find the starting position of PSS. Then detect CP type atthe detected OFDM of PSS, and get the CP type from normal CP type and extended CP type.Completing these two steps, we can find the position of the SSS channel, and then detect SSS bycorrelation operation. This completes the system symbol synchronization, frame synchronizationand cell search.Finally, put forward a set of FPGA implementation according to the given systemsynchronization algorithm. First analyze the synchronization principle, then put forward aproposal and give the hardware realization diagram. Then complete this scheme and give thesimulation figure by FPGA. In this paper, simulate synchronization algorithm by Matlab andFPGA. The research result indicates that the designed algorithm can complete the initial synchronization and cell search in TD-LTE relay system.
