It is well known that System-on-Chip (SoC) is a trend and main stream for the development of the Ultra Large Scale Integrated circuit (ULSI). SoC is based on the process of Very Deep Sub-Micron (VDSM) and the reuse technology of Intellectual Property (IP). And now, Power SoC (PSoC) as a branch of the SoC is becoming a hot topic for many relative researchers. The design of IP core in power transformer is one of the most important parts of the IP core reuse technique.At present, there are three kinds of modes of modulation including pulse width modulation (PWM), pulse frequency modulation (PFM) and the modulation of combination of PWM and PFM. Lots of products using above modulations are designed in many famous companies. However, the efficiency of PWM at light load is low and the filter design of PFM is rather difficult due to the random characteristic of the frequency spectrum distribution. A new modulation mode, which is the mode of pulse skip modulation (PSM), can overcome the above disadvantages of PWM and PFM. Simulation results show that PSM has many merits such as high efficiency at light load, high response speed, robustness and simple implement for circuit design. However, PSM also have some disadvantages, for example, the output voltage ripple is large at light load and the system maybe produce radio frequency noise.In this paper, based on the above analysis, firstly a modeling for an improved modulation of PSM—Fuzzy PSM is built, and then, its IP core, the test circuit and some related sub-circuits for PSoC are designed.
