IP reuse technology can improve the design efficiency to a large degree and decrease the cost. Hard IPs are being paid more and more attention because of their high reliability and facility. The embedded MCU core is a kind of IPs widely used in various systems.SDU_M08 IP Core is an 8-bit RISC MCU developed by the ASIC design centre of Information and Technology school in Shandong University. This core is compatible with PIC16C57 of Microchip company. It can be widely used in the field of industrial control, automobile, instrumentation, appliance and so on.This paper gives complete analysis for the system architecture, instruction set and system time sequence of PIC16C57. Based on the analysis, SDU_M08 MCU IP Core's top function definition, structure partition and module partition are implemented. It has been approved that our model for SDUM08 MCU IP Core is feasible and effective.The system specification, system compartmentalization and design of sub modules, RTL coding as well as simulation are described in detail in this thesis. The power consumption, area and timing are taken into prior consideration in the design. Some modules are designed according to new method. In this paper, we have given the result of netlist simulation, process and result of Formality and Static Timing Analysis(STA). Tools used in this design include VCS, Design Compiler, Formality and PrimeTime of Synopsys company. This IP Core is described by Verilog HDL, synthesized based on SMIC 0.35um technology library.The simulation results prove that the design is very successful, and the core is fully compatible with PIC16C57.
