The development of modern wireless communications technology brings wireless video application feasibility. With the deployment and operation of 3G network, and the use of broadband wireless access technology at hot spot, such as WLAN, WiMAX and McWiLL, it could be forecasted that real-time video conferencing, VOD and other mobile video applications will have a very broad prospect. The project "Designing and implementation of WinCE based wireless video terminal" aimed at developing a multi-mode device which is based on the embedded OS Windows CE .NET. The terminal could utilize 3G and WLAN networks to provide mobile video applications. In the project, I am primarily responsible for the development of a WLAN card driver.Referring to the project, this paper firstly discusses the framework, feature and development environments of embedded OS Windows CE. Secondly the device driver structures, loading mechanisms and interrupt handling in Windows CE platform are analyzed and summarized, mainly demonstrating the four device driver developing modes: Local device driver mode, Stream interface driver mode, USB driver mode and NDIS driver mode; and then, based on the research of the MAC chip HFA3841 developed by Intersil Cooperation and NDIS miniport driver developing mode, the specific designing method of WLAN card driver is given. In this part, designing methods and detailed implementations of driver initialization, interrupt handling, data receiving and transmitting, driver loading and other modules will be presented in detail.
