An SD card driver based on Windows CE is needed in the task in order to develop a low-cost GPS vehicle navigation system with entertainment functi ons. The functions of GPS navigation system are analyzed from the point of u sers ,then a hardware and software solution is proposed in this paper.The syste m uses Windows CE as the embedded operating system, because it is rich in available resources and greatly shortens the development cycle. S3C2440A is c hosen as the embedded processor because of its rapid calculation speed, and itsrich interfaces which make the system support more hardware devices. SD car d is selected as the memory card to greatly reduce the cost. In order to makeWindows CE control SD card's reading, writing and other operations, the SD card driver based on Windows CE must be developed. The hardware features a nd the principle of the SD card are analyzed, then the accessing and control o f the SD card registers is implemented. According to the driver features of theWindows CE and the supporting circumstances for SD card on S3C2440A, anapproach to realize the SD card driver based on Windows CE is proposed. T he SD card driver is a stream interface device driver, so it can be achieved asa set of standard stream interface functions. Theses functions realize the opera tions such as reading, writing and deleting. The stream interface functions of t he SD card driver are implemented, then the source codes are compiled by Pla tform Builder to get a core file. Finally, the core file is downloaded to the tar get board for testing.
