Advanced Set-top Box Hardware Platform For The Overall Design And Some Of The Features Developed

Presently, TV broadcasting is converting analog to digital rapidly. The microelectronics technology and Internet technology develop quickly. Consumer electron is promoted along with the integration of computer, consumer and communication. It also accelerates the development of Set Top Box (STB) during the transition phase.The advanced STB is one consumer electron which points on the application of digital TV and colligate digital receiver with network technology. It has the functions of PVR and Ethernet interface except digital receiver, so as to adapt multimedia demand for STB in the information and network age.This article is summarized from my two years work. It introduces the development process of digital TV and the actuality of STB. It analyzes chiefly the advanced STB hardware platform which composed with ITVC-15 and IT8172G. It presents the hardware structure of PVR platform and the functions of Advanced STB about Ethernet,ADSL,IEEE1394 interface. It explains embedded system Linux Kernel and PMON and Application software of PVR.Secondly, this article sums up the conception related to digital TV international standard. It analyzes the Advanced STB platform structure and the technology of software and hardware. Moreover it introduces the digital receiver based on ITVC-15 PVR platform.Lastly, it Summaries the research work and forecasts the future of advanced STB.
