With the development of society production, the industrial process and the equipments become more and more complicated and the objects and data which should be monitored are much more than before. Therefore, monitoring of the production process becomes much harder and also more and more important than before, especially for some high pollution, toxin and danger fields. Monitoring system, especially the real-time monitoring system is very important for realizing automation. A good monitoring system is a key part for the production safety.At first, my dissertation describes general monitoring system, introduces its definition, classification, structure and application, and especially draws a future picture for computer intellectual monitoring system which uses artificial intelligence. Then my dissertation discusses real-time monitoring system deeply, introduces its normal structure, classification and performance, and especially describes its key part-the real-time database in detail. My dissertation also presents a real-time database model based on adaptive control and analyzes it deeply.My dissertation cites an example of an oil discharging and monitoring system in an oil tanker. It describes the process of designation and realization of the system. It introduces the background, requirements and some forms in designation of the system, displays the structure, function and realization of the system and shows the developing process of such system. It also discusses the problems about stability and reliability of monitoring systems and presents some useful designation methods to enhance stability and reliability of a monitoring system. It concludes that the monitoring system using industrial PC can monitor oil discharging of an oil tanker effectively. At last, it points out the future of such systems and some parts which need to be improved.
