Nowadays, Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) has been used widely for it has peculiarity of low driving-voltage, low power, thin and portable, colorful and non-emissive. In the LCD field, TFT-LCD is the dominant one, because it has many merits, such as high display performance, full color, high performance and so on. TFT-LCD has been used in various display equipments, especially in the personal information terminal such as mobile phone. As the interface circuit between MPU of mobile phone and TFT-LCD panel, TFT-LCD driving and controlling IC controls and drives the color display of the TFT-LCD panel, its performance influences the display quality and the power consumption of TFT-LCD panel directly.The research content of the dissertation is a part of National "863" Program-"Research on TFT-LCD driving and controlling Control IC for Colored Display Mobile Phone", which is carried out by NWPU Aviation Micro-Electronics Center. In this dissertation the driving principles of LCD especially the TFT-LCD are discussed firstly, based on the principles, the architecture and function block of the IC are analyzed. Then, the theories of gamma correction are researched, and the design method and some key technology of the programmable adjustment gamma correction circuit used in the IC are also described. And then, the Source Driver circuit based the IC are described, by analyzing the equivalent RC loading model of the TFT-LCD, the optimized design method of the Source Driver circuit is discussed. Finally, the results of Synopsys Hspice simulation based on the designed gamma correction circuit and the Source Driver circuit are given. The results of the simulation indicate that designed circuit can satisfy the specifications and properties requirements of TFT-LCD driver IC.This dissertation has contributed to designing the TFT-LCD driving and controlling IC. Furthermore, the dissertation also has provided a good solution to design the Source Driver circuit.
