With the development of information technology, LCD is becoming more and more popular nowadays. Compared to CRT devices, LCD is more flexible with lower voltage and power consumption. It is now widely used in many areas such as computer, TV industry and even space shuttles, especially those large-scale TFT-LCDs. Source driver as one of the most important components in a TFT-LCD is required to be faster, smaller and higher performance.The thesis presents the design of an SXGA 64 gray-scale TFT-LCD source driver which can realize a full-color display with 260000 kinds of colors. The design can be mainly divided into two parts which is the digital part and the analog part separately. Level shifter module is used to transfer power levels between these two parts. The data input is a serial interface in a format of 6×6bit (2 pixel each time). In the digital part, the power supply is 3.3V while in analog part, 9V is used in order to make more gray-scale voltages. 65MHz is used in the digital part as the clock signal. The working principle and process of the source driver is thoroughly introduced first. Then based on some examples and experience, the thesis presents the general design structure. Both digital part and analog part are then introduced clearly from schematic to simulation results. The realization of gamma correction circuit, dot-inversion function and output buffer are especially introduced. Finally, the overall design is given based on all the separate modules.On the all, the design is using a full-custom ASIC design method with 0.35um 3.3v/18V technology file from SMIC and Cadence environments under UNIX. Based on all the results of the simulation, the whole design is proved to be accord with the specifications very well.
