Campus Nms Snmp-based Study

The computer network technology has been developed rapidly recently. The network scale becomes larger and larger, and network topology becomes more complicated than ever. So it is important to develop a computer network management system for all kinds computer networks. SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) has been widely used as a default standard for managing networks.This paper analyses the SNMP and discusses all kinds of computer network management architectures. Then it has designed a computer network management system which is based on WEB and SNMP.Data to be collected and network topology to be detected are important parts of NMS. The paper focuses on researching the policies of methods for collecting data from network devices which is used by the computer network management system. It provides a collecting data model based SNMP. It proposes to detect network topology by using ARP, SNMP and ICMP. The paper also discuses how to complete a performance monitoring model, fault monitoring model and accounting monitoring model, and analyses the result of the experimentations. Finally, the paper lists some problems in the procession.
