Collaborative Product Development, Technology Research, Ontology-based Information Exchange

At the end of 20^th century, the field of manufacturing met the great challenge with the characteristics of the short product life cycle, the diversity of customer's needs, delivering date to become the first factor, information automation and intelligentizing. So the product collaboration and information exchange become necessary. During the research of information exchange there exsit two obstacles, one is syntax problem which is created by the difference of the languages of information exchange and expression, and another is semantic problem which is induced by the difference of meaning of information expression. With the popularity of engeneering softwares, semantics problem is becoming important and hurry to be solved.Aimming at the process planning and inventory management, this paper uses two kind of tools—Protege and Ontology Editor—to create process planning requirement ontology and inventory requirement ontology respectively, with the PSL from NIST to be the common ontology to explain the above two onotologies. In this paper, RDF is used as the formal expressive grammer of ontology. Jena from HP is used to parse RDF, to analyse the ontology translation based on PSL, and to create the mechanism of ontology information exchange based on RDF.The theme designs the model of product collaboration development, analyses the process planning and inventory management with their descriptions and related ontologies, and develops the process ontology exchange to PSL in order to realize the semantics exchange of colloaboration information. The theme has the significance in the research of the whole process ontology development of product collaboration development, and enterprise information integration.
