The sharing and exchange of product information is the principal question in the fields of the CIM, CE and VE. Especially, how to realize the sharing and exchange of product information over the Internet becomes a focus of research. Because of the characteristics of the autonomy and heterogeneity among the distributed enterprises, the sharing and exchange of product information should meet the requirement of dynamic and agility, and at the same time, solve the question of the heterogeneous workspace, system and information, which the conventional technology can't solve. With the quickened development of the Internet and associated technology, especially the naissance and development of the XML in the lately 1990s, a new method is provided for the research on the sharing and exchange of product information. In this dissertation, with the attention on the product information and with the help of the XML technology, the technology and method of the XML-based exchange and search for the heterogeneous product information are presented systematically. It provides an effective method for the research on the exchange and share among the distributed units over the Internet.The research has the important value both on the theory and practice. The main content of this dissertation shows as follows:In the 1st chapter, the development of the share and exchange of product information and the XML are reviewed. The current research state of the share and exchange of product information over the Internet and its relative research content are explained. Also, the research background and the main work of this dissertation are described briefly.In the 2nd chapter, according to the requirement of the sharing and exchange of product information over the Internet, the XML is determined as the knowledge description language. Then the method and its architecture of the XML-based exchange with production information are presented systematically. And the relative key technology is put forward.In the 3rd chapter, according to the requirement of the representation of the product information, a new data model -XOEM (extensive Object Exchange Model) is presented because of the lack of the data model, which faces to the XML. The formal description of the XOEM and its corresponding algebra are put forward, and then the data model is applied to the XML document on the WEB.In the 4th chapter, the method of the uniform information representation is presented according to the requirement of the description and identification of the diversified heterogeneous product information. And then the XML-based product document information isput forward, which includes the WEB document, the relative database information, and the non-text mode information.In the 5th chapter, aiming at the STEP standard of the product data, the description method on the WEB is put forward. In order to realize the representation on STEP with XML, with the attention on STEP part21 file, the relation between EXPRESS and XML is established at first. Then in order to realize the universal representation, the XML DTD is created based on the hierarchical tree structure for data instance. At last with the help of SX_Viewer, to prove feasibility and practicability, the process and result of the conversion example is presented.In the 6th chapter, according to the XOEM model, the base cell of fractal hierarchy -extensive hyperlinks is proposed as unified information structure for XML; and then the description of the corresponding rules is presented; at last a uniform template of the XML DTD is put forward.In the 7th chapter, on the basis of research above, the search method for the product information among the distributed units is presented. At first the system architecture is built; and then the system composing and operation is analyzed; at last, the corresponding key technologies are put forward which includes intelligence agent, the XML-based search, the access to the multi data sources and the XML-based operation faced on the customer.In the 8th chap...
