Digital TV is a bran-new broadcasting mode and a trend of TV development. It will replace the analog TV for excellent picture, lower bandwidth of a program and bi-directional transport. The development of DTV makes digital satellite broadcasting become the mainstream of satellite broadcasting. As more and more digital programes are sent to satellite, the demand for digital satellite receiver increases fast. Either in terrestrial broadcast or cable broadcast or satellite broadcast of DTV, MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) multiplexer and demultiplexer are important parts. So the research and design of the receiver and the multiplexer and demultiplexer will creat huge economic benefit. Based on the introduction of MPEG-2 systems layer and the syntax of program special information (PSI), this paper describes the design of the digital satellite receiver. This design is the based on the ST solution, which uses chip STi5518D as the MPEG-2 decoder and chip STV0299 as the QPSK demodulator. I replace STV0299 with MT312 made by MITEL, so that the function of blind search is added to the receiver. In this part, I will first introduce the receiver's theory, the overall software and hardware architectures as well as the design envionment of software. Then I will introduce the software design and test of the receiver front part inclucding tuner and channel demodulator and decoder, which is accomplished by me. This paper also describes the design of MPEG-2 TS multiplexer and demultiplexer. The multiplexer combines several single-program TSs into one multi-program TS, while the demultiplexer recovers the original single-program TS from multi-program TS. A kind of solution to multiplexer and demultiplexer is put forward in this paper. The solution is that under the precondition of according with MPEG-2 standard, making some special process in PSI process unit and interweave unit so that the demultiplexer can recover single-program TS. Then this paper will discuss the implementation of this solution via FPGA and gives the FPGA simulation result. The design is so clear and concise that it can be well realized in practical project. At last this paper will introduce present conditions and fortune of DTV.
