This dissertation is concerned about the problem of design and simulation of the IFF (Identification Friend or Foe) system. Firstly, the operation principles of current IFF systems are introduced, and its internal interference is analyzed. Secondly, the design scheme of the new IFF system is described. Its performance is evaluated by the theories of probability, random process and queuing theory. At the last, a system model has been built by the software of STAGE, its performance is analyzed in detail and the simulation methods and results are presented. The new IFF system mainly utilized the technologies of time synchronization, direct sequence spread spectrum and frequency hopping, which of them made the new system have good performance. As we know, one of the most important criterions to the performance of IFF system is the detection probability, which is mostly affected by the internal interference such as garble, fruit, side lobe interference, and captures from transponders. Internal interference embitters the capture and then deteriorates the detection probability. The mathematical expressions for the operation performance have been given out in chapter 4. The last part of this dissertation is the software implementation of the system simulation. The results verified the correctness of the conclusions drawn from the analysis. The simulation results showed that the detection probability has been greatly improved in this new IFF system compared with the current systems; the design standard has been satisfied. At the same time, the affection of internal interference and capture has been obviously decreased by the technologies of time synchronization, direct sequence spread spectrum, frequency hopping, etc and those affections are not the main reasons for influence of performance any longer though they still exists.
