The dissertation carries out research on the subject—design of GPIB circuit which is the sub-project of High Speed Data Generator taken on by UESTC. The paper includes the following contents: introduction of development, architecture and principles of Data Generator; elaboration and analysis of two methods of GPIB protocol and their final solution; demonstration of system structure of hardware and software. Chapter one briefly discusses the signal characteristics of digital system and the detection requirements to data source, introduces the application in data domain test and the development of data generator home and abroad. In the second chapter, the principles of data generator and design requirement of its remote control circuit, the history and the interface function of GPIB are analyzed. The third chapter illustrates the significance of realization of GPIB controller with FPGA chip. The design includes three units: the control part connected with the ISA bus, the design of state machine to realize interface, and the design of data channel with reference of internal structure of NAT9914.The methods for realization and concrete steps are explained carefully in this chapter. Chapter four presents how to use NAT9914, an IEEE 488 controller chip to perform the interface functions defined in the IEEE Standard 488. The design is divided into three parts: the control of the chip, the NAT9914 controller chip, and connection to the GPIB with SN75160 and SN75162 transceivers, and the description of them is also included in this chapter. Software design about driver and its structure and function are introduced in the fifth chapter in which control software of GPIB are elaborated by listening, talking, serial polling function module with flow chart and translation about SCPI in a tree structure. The final chapter introduces debugging method of hardware and software, debugging process and concrete problems that will be faced during debugging and their solution and function test based on NAT9914 interface.
