With the rapid development of electronic technology, automated test system has become a modern test of a very important area of development trend, however, GPIB General Purpose Interface Bus is a commonly used test instrument interface mode. Be achieved through this interface to facilitate automated test system and the price is cheap, has certain advantages. However, a dedicated GPIB interface chip only a few companies in the country of production, the price is very expensive, so use CPLD to implement GPIB interface functions of great value.This paper is to use CPLD chip for AWG (arbitrary waveform generator) designed one GPIB interface functions. First introduced the GPIB interface controller based on CPLD’s historical context; followed by a brief description of the GPIB interface controller and the main characteristics of the design. By reference to multiple dedicated GPIB interface chip features, its advantages designed and completed ARM+CPLD+transceiver driver chip74ALS160/161mode AWG GPIB interface hardware schematic design, PCB drawing, machining, welding and debugging. Achieve ARM2440as the control of control and data transceiver functions. According to the design of the AWG’s needs, select the GPIB interface functions AWG subset; modular design concept, using the state machine designed to complete the GPIB interface is a subset of the functionality required module description and registers; by the Synplify software to each module integrated; software module with Modelsim functional simulation and timing simulation; final circuit using a similar method to draw the generated symbols overlap with each module to complete the whole system chip design, and through the JTAG download tool to download to the CPLD for system debugging; prepared ARM and CPLD C language program to communicate with each other, to communicate using ARM and CPLD, processed by the chip transceiver chip74ALS160/161transmitted to the drive GPIB bus, multi-machine communication.In this paper, SCPI commands for a simple introduction, converter through the GPIB-USB GPIB controller and the PC will connect through the PC send SCPI commands to control the instruments of listening, speaking, query and other functions; a brief description of how The design of the hardware debugging and software debug; Finally, this paper CPLD-based GPIB controller design are summarized.
