Ultra-Wideband (UWB) communication is the development direction of 2l centurycommunication system. Meanwhile, its development also demands for suitable UWBantenna technology. With the development of modern antenna technology towards tominiaturization, broadband, integration. More and more requirements is proposed in UWBantenna design. The dissertation mainly focuses on UWB dielectric resonator antenna(DRA) bandwidth-widening techniques. The theoretical analysis and experimentalverification are used in the analysis and exploration. Bases on these theories, two novelUWB dielectric resonator antennas are presented. The main contributions of thedissertation are listed as below:Firstly, the DRA theory analysis method is elaborated. The resonant frequency ofrectangular, cylinder, hemispherical structure dielectric resonator antenna is estimated. Inconnection with the application of the UWB dielectric resonator antenna in practical, thepaper focuses on three kinds of bandwidth-widening techniques in the design of UWBdielectric resonator antennas. Especially, the advantages and disadvantages of severaltechnologies, design main consideration and basic design methods are discussed.Secondly, a novel dielectric resonator antenna is proposed in UWB application. Thefirst structure is excited by microstrip line, but using a cylinder, which reduce the size tohalf. The simulation results show that: The proposed DRA antenna covers the bandwidthof 4.4-10.2 GHz. The relative bandwidth is 80%.The return loss; radiation pattern and thegain of the antenna are meet the requirement. Finally, another novel dielectric resonator antenna is designed in UWB application. The antenna is also fed by microstrip line, but the structure is special, which insert therectangular dielectric resonator into the dielectric substrate. To improve the UWBcharacter in high frequency, two rectangular holes was cuted. The size of the rectangularhole is obtained by optimization. The simulation results show that: The proposed DRAantenna covers the bandwidth of 3.8-10.0 GHz. The relative bandwidth is 90%.The returnloss; radiation pattern and the gain of the antenna are also meet the requirement.
