In this thesis, with virtual scene touring system as research purpose, several key techniques of virtual environment touring based on image are studied, which include image morphing, view morphing, image mosaicing, panoramic image generation and view organization and scene touring. The main works are detailed as followed:1) Image-based Rendering and Geometry Modeling based Rendering are reviewed and compared .The advantages of Image- based Rendering in the field of virtual scene generation are described.2) The basic theory of image morphing and view morphing are analyzed. After comparing the difference between them, the applying range of them is given. Furthermore an algorithm of view interpolation correspondence with viewpoints is implemented.3) The advantages and disadvantages of general image mosaicing algorithms are discussed. Then image mosaicing methods based on featureless and feature line are implemented. Moreover, an image mosaicing algorithm based on video image sequence is implemented.4) The generation of cylinder panoramic image is studied and the inverse projective algorithm involved with the scene touring is analyzed.5) Some methods of scene touring are summarized, and the view organization and storage of image data are discussed. A framework of scene touring system is established, and a scene touring system is nearly implemented with Visual C++ language.
