Image-based virtual scene generation technology is based on the theories and methods of computer graphics rendering, computer vision, digital image processing and other disciplines, uses simple image synthesizing in stead of complex geometric modeling and rendering, and overcomes the problems of traditional geometry-based virtual scene rendering technology. Therefore, the technology has now become a hotspot in the research of virtual reality. This paper deeply investigates the image-based virtual scene generation technology, and acquires the following results:1. Based on the analysis of virtual scene models, the virtual scenes are layered, and the generating steps of virtual scenes are also designed. The virtual scene model adopted in this paper is based on spherical panoramic image, in accordance with the corresponding position relationship in the space, and makes each view of the scene links to the other view through the space chain.2. An improved image seamless splicing method based on featured points is proposed. By the extraction and match of featured points, and a robust option strategic for filtering, the method solves the mismatch of featured points well, ensures the transform estimates executed by purified accurate data of featured points, and then determines the transformation parameters between the unspliced images; and also adopts the improved weighted smoothing algorithm to achieve a seamless image splicing.3. The automatic generation of spherical panoramic image is achieved. This article firstly makes the spherical projection for the captured images, and takes bilinear interpolation algorithm to solve the serration emerged in images after spherical projection image; then calculates the probability model confirmed by spherical image matching, and the realizes of the automatic identification of spherical image, that is, automatic sorting from a group of disordered spherical image input, according to real images; lastly takes the two-step splicing, completes the splicing of spherical panoramic image.4. An image-based virtual scene roaming system is designed and developed. The system can automatically generate spherical panoramic images, and then use the space chain to link the images to a complete virtual scene, and realizes the local scene display through the man-machine interaction. The virtual scene roaming browser can achieve the effects of sweeping, asymptotic close and asymptotic away, transitional browsing between views and so on, by the mouse and the directions of keyboard.
