Virtual Reality (VR) Technique is a new integrative information technique that attracts many scientists recently. We construct 3D virtual world using computers, and interact with it using some sensors. Image-based rendering is one branch of VR technique, which uses a set of images to generate new image from different view point. The technique of tour into the picture was proposed by Horry in 1997 is one technique of IBR. TIP provides a simple 3D scene model, which is only the combination of some billboards and a 3D polygon frame, to generate gratifying high-quality 3D animation. We introduce the research and applications on the method of TIP using relative depth calculation. We propose an approach of relative depth calculating to get smooth switch between TIP model and the reference image. Without complex calculating, the TIP model can be automatically constructed with respect to the vanishing point(s) specified by the user.We propose the concept of relative depth. It's the distance from the model to the image plane. The process includes viewpoint detection, relative depth calculation, and relative size calculation. Moreover, the new texture can be re-projected, and mapped to the new model. We give out the advanced process of TIP, which has three threads corresponding with each other, and leading to the novel image result.Further more, we extend our method to complex scenes, just as multiple-VP (View Point), and slope. We also try to apply the technique to many complex scenes with other IBR techniques, such as panorama with TIP, multiple-layer foreground, and so on.Basing on the research of IBR, we finish two system of virtual touring, for Lingyin and Hu Xueyan's former residence. The system uses different IBR techniques according to the features of the scene, and gives users the immersive feelings to enjoy the culture of the history.
