Multimedia CAI courseware is more and more plenty. However, the reuse of courseware has never been resolved and is still one of issues to be researched and settled in Computer Aided Instruction. In this paper, we present a new architecture to organize and reuse courseware based on the knowledge conceptual network.The framework of system is made up of knowledge described by conceptual network, teaching material associated with knowledge, rule, and pattern of information. Conceptual network shows the interdependent relationships among the concepts. Each node in conceptual network describes the basic idea and general meaning of knowledge. Each edge in conceptual network displays the relationships among knowledge. The teaching information consists of episodic courseware that uses concept as it basic unit and related material. Each piece of information links a certain concept in conceptual network. Thus the information is formed into knowledge network for further use.Organizing courseware of concept network is to research how to achieve the attachment from courseware resource to concept tree under the knowledge hierarchy of concept network. The steps follows: extracting features of the courseware, presenting these features by concepts, saving all the feature information into database, and building connections with correspond concept nodes. With concept network, all kinds of knowledge nodes and their multi-connections in instruction information resource can be well presented and encapsulated. Retrieving based on concept and knowledge courseware can find suitable courseware resources accurately. Concept association can be used to compound and assemble related courseware to become new ones.In chapter fourth, how to guide a learning course using knowledge concept network is analyzed. In this chapter, navigating mechanism is mainly analyzed. Navigating is mainly based on three factors, that is knowledge hierarchy of concept network (hierarchy and relationship), instruction policy and student model. Concept network give a guide for learner in knowledge hierarchy. On this basement, instruction policy leads students to the end point of study according certain path. Student model provide a guide for some specific person.At last, a prototype under web environment is provided in chapter fifth. The three levels model based on J2EE platform is introduced, of which more emphasis on design and realization of the navigating engine is given.
