This paper stems from the case of National Natural Science Fund named "a Study of Product Design Process Coupled with Multi-Perception Factors" (No.50275112), and "Three-Dimensional Digitalized Design Special System and Toolset for Industry Typical Products" (No.2002AA411030), one project of National High Technology Research and Development Program of China (Type B).According to the analysis of process of product color design, methods of color selection freely and harmonically are proposed for the stage of selecting color(s); at the stage of processing color harmonically, three algorithms of generating harmonic colors based on Simple Genetic Algorithm, Moon&Spencer's Theory of Color Harmony and Way of Identity Harmony respectively are advanced; For the contrast of color schemes, method of simplifying 3D model's color project to 2D image and mapping way between them are developed.Based on the methods and algorithms, a compute aided color design toolset for products is constructed, and a set of color design tools are planned and developed, and these tools are integrated on the modeling platform CAXA Solid Design successfully. The result showed that these methods and algorithms are feasible, and the tools can assist designer in product's color design effectively.
