With the coming of Computer Intergrated Manufacturing and Multi-media, color is reproduced in different observation conditions or on different media and ICC Color Management Mechanism is not met the development of cross-media color reproduction. Based on the development of future color management, this article focuses on two importance components: one is the Profile Connection Space(PCS); the other one is Gamut Mapping. CIECAM02 is based on CIECAM97s but includes many revision and some simplifications. The uniformity of CIECAM02 is revised from local to integrity using the four color difference datasets (BFD, Leeds, RIT-DuPont and Witt) and the Munsell Renotation Data. And its uniformity is investigated using the Munsell Renotation Data, the results show that, the revised uniformity is greatly improved in terms of partial and entire space. At the same time, the existing gamut mapping algorithms are comprehensive analyzed, summarized the characteristic and the application environment of each algorithm. Finally, a new gamut mapping algorithm, SLightness, is proposed which is based on the optimized CIECAM02. The algorithm has two components: one is sequential operation in the highlight and shadow, and the other one is simultaneous operation in the middle tone. Then, the algorithm is evaluated using subjective and objective methods. From the results it can be seen that the new algorithm performed significantly better than the SGCK algorithm, and slightly better than the HPMINDE algorithm. In the end, based on the research results, the color conversion program is developed using VC++. The program is a real time and color appearance model-based program which has the functions of image reading, gamut description and gamut mapping.
