With the development of science and technology and the progress of society, the cognition of color plays a more and more important role in daily life and industrial production. Therefore,it is necessary to carry out more systematic and quantitative studies on the process of human eye perception of color.Especially when LED has replaced traditional light source as the mainstream choice in people's work and lives.Currently, there is a huge need of researches about how human eyes perceive colors and recognize color differences conducted in a variety of LED lighting environment, the data of which should be analyzed in colorimetric filed to find the suitable color model and color difference descriptive formula, which accord with human color vision characteristics under LED lighting environment. This paper uses the Munsell FM100 color system to study the experiment performance of human eyes in color perception and color difference discrimination under a variety of LED lighting environments, and evaluates the performance of 16 color models(CAM02UCS,CAM02,LAB,LUV x CIE1931,CIE1964 CIE2006 2,CIE2006 10)and 4 color difference description formula from the perspective of chromaticity.(Color Distance,Color Space Distance,Hue Angle Difference,Hue Difference)The performance of color sample sorting experiment was studied under two different LED lighting environments(3000K,D65).Results showed that the subject' performance is closely related to the lighting condition, color range, subject's age and gender. The sorting difficulty is higher in 3000 K than D65 and so is the same in blue-green range than red-yellow range.Young group performs better than middle age group so as female better than male.Furthermore,a set of threshold-variance-analysis-method was proposed to evaluate the performance of color models in interpreting the sorting experiment results. The results showed that, among the 16 color models evaluated in this paper,(CAM02UCS,CIE1964)was better than other color models in interpreting the sorting experiment of color samples. The performance of color sample matching experiment was studied in complex LED lighting environments, including one experiment conducted in single LED box and another experiment conducted in double LED boxes. Results showed that the performance of color difference description formula is closely related to the lighting condition, the size and the range of color difference. In the experimental factors and color difference description formulas studied in this paper, except when the light environment is 3000 K of experiment and D65 of reference, the hue difference can better describe how the subjects perceive color difference,so does the color distance in other lighting environments. In the case of small color difference, the color distance can better describe how the subjects perceive color difference;in the case of large color difference,so does the hue difference. In all the color ranges, the color distance can better describe how the subjects perceive color difference.
