Representation In Gis Extension

At first, this paper has brought forward its investigative intent and meaning, introduced simply the definition, the features, the types, the domains of application and the brief historical development of GIS, analyzed states of showing ways in current GIS and brought forth main work of this research.The second, the five functions of the present GIS (Data Acquisition, Data Editing, Data Storage and Retrieval, Data Search and Analysis, Graphic Display and Interaction) have been summarized and we have found lacks of showing ways in current GIS.The third, it has analyzed the information integration of three trades of special type, such as traffic, military and petroleum. We have found that these trades of special type have higher demands and the current GIS can't meet their demands because of its lack in the aspect of show. So we need use other technology to extend its ways of show.The fourth, the paper has discussed the definition, basic features, commonly constitute, types and domains of development of Virtual Reality. It also has briefly expatiated on Virtual Geographic Information System formed from VR and GIS.The fifth, it has presented that the OpenGL technique may extend the three-dimensional methods of show. It has summarized of the features, functions, working flow, drawing flow, output process of three-dimensional graph and the setting of illumination and material in OpenGL.At last, the paper has introduced an example extended the ways of show of current GIS by OpenGL technique.
