Target recognition using range profiles plays an important role in radar target recognition and many algorithms were proposed. Subspace method is one of the efficient ways to implement it. This paper attempts to implement the Eigen-subspace method, the basic method among subspace methods, using FPGAs. Quickly progress of programmable device and its excellent performance has brought us another way to implement the algorithms in many fields. The main contents in this paper conclude:1. Introducing the design methodology of FPGAs used to implement algorithms.2. Introducing the Eigen-subspace method used in the target recognition using range profiles and its computation method based on the singular value decomposition.3. Discussing in detail the Systolic algorithms for the SVD, based on the Jacobi method with "parallel ordering" and the hardware algorithm CORDIC.4. Discussing the implementation of the CORDIC-SVD in FPGAs and its applications in the Eigen-subspace method's implementation. All the results in the project are designed by the devices of Xilinx and its development system ISE4.2i.
