With the fast development of computer technology, researches about CAD, CAPP and CAM are more and more deeply. Especially after the appearance of QMS, CAD/CAPP/CAM integration has become one of important problems which have to be solved as soon as possible. As the bridge of linking CAD and CAM, CAPP is very important to mechanical engineering technology. And now, the CAPP system research in integration environment has become one of important projects in technology domain.The research about CAPP system in integration environment and its key technology is one of highlights in mechanical engineering domain. The CAPP system in integration environment is a computer aided process planning system which can realize CAD/CAPP/CAM information integration and share. Now, the major problems about CAPP system in integration environment are information description, automated process planning, integration data management, I/O interface, and so on. One of necessary characteristics about CAPP system in integration environment is the problem of information integration and share. To CAPP system, they can not only inherit some information from CAD system, but also output some information to CAM system. The information which inherit from CAD system can help CAPP system design process planning, and the information which output to CAM system can help it manufacture the part which has been designed by CAD system.Because the style and structure of information which is required by CAD, CAPP and CAM is different, it is very difficult to realize integration between these systems. CAD system's work is to design a part, and the information about this part is determinate. However, the information cannot be used smoothly by CAPP and CAM system for the information description method about a part in different system is different. If CAPP and CAM system want to use of these information about a part in CAD, they have to transfer these information to proper style, and then they can recognize and use them. These years, there are many researches about how to make full use of the information in CAD system and how to describe a part in other systems. During these researches, many methods about part information description have been developed, such as GT code method, language description method, knowledge description method, feature description method, and so on. However, all these methods need to recognize and analyze part drawing by person. They are also need input many information about a part by hand, this procedure is very difficult, timeless and easy to make mistakes. So these methods cannot realize proper information description to a part, say nothing of realizing the CAPP system in integration environment.How to realize information integration and share between CAPP and CAD is the firstproblem which has to be solved about CAPP system in integration environment. These years, with the development of CAD technology, especially feature modeling, CAD system describe a part is more and more specific. To analyze information description and saving of CAD system, we can get structure and tolerance information about a part directly from CAD system by program. Then, we can recognize the information, and match them to its feature and saving. To some information which cannot inherit directly from CAD system or have something wrong in the procedure, modify or input them by hand. At last, we get all the information which is need in CAPP system. Then we can go further to finish information description about CAPP in integration environment and realize information integration and share between CAD and CAPP system.This paper analyses the structure and key technology of CAPP system in integration environment, then pay more attention to information integration technology of CAD/CAPP, in other words, it is feature description and modeling technology of part information in integration environment.
