With the development of communication and radar, people put forward high request of the correspondence system. Because millimeter-wave can provide ability of fast speed date delivery and the wide bandwidth, it become more valued in information ages. So the low price, small bulk and high performance of front-end RF become more and more important. In this dissertation, A Ka band multiplier chain is developed, which can be used for local oscillator. In the passive circuit part, according to the theories of microstrip line and coupled microstripwe, the characteristic of microstrip and coupled microstrip was analyzed, the X band filter and dc block circuit of amplifier have been designed by HP-ADS software. Then, the results of experiments are presented, and the similarities and differences between the results of optimization and experiments are pointed out. In the active circuit part, based on the theories of multiplier of SRD and FET, we have designed the circuit of X band ×6 multiplier and Ka band tripler. Then they are simulated and optimized using harmonic balance method. Furthermore, the results of optimization and experiments are analyzed. At last, a Ka band multiplier chain is achieved by connecting the X band ×6 multiplier, the X band amplifier and Ka band FET tripler, as well as Ka band bandpass filter. When inputted the 2GHz signal withpower 18dBm, the output power of multiplier chain is 5.6mW with frequency 36GHz.At the end of this dissertation, a few suggestions are put forward for farther research of multiplier.
