With the rapid development of information in this era, communication is playing a more and more important role in our life. Among all means of communication, mobile communication in particular receives a lot of attention from specialists and subscribers all over the world, because this means of communication is not subject to distance and time. GSM technology has been more and more widely applied in our country since the 1990's. However, China has not yet made sufficient research into the kernel technology of GSM protocol stack software in mobile station owing to various factors. As a result, most of the core components and technology of the domestic mobile phone rely on importation, which leads to a great loss of our foreign currencies. At the same time, the security of our information cannot be guaranteed.The author has had the honor to take part in the designing and research work organized by Capitel Group and Software Institute of Chinese Academy of Science. Based on the working experience, this paper emphasizes the three major problems emerging in the designing and realizing process of the protocol stack software, that is:1. the division of the functional modules of protocol stack software:2. the application of newr development methods(SDL Language):3. the encapsulation of different hardware platform.This paper is intended to help readers get a further understanding about the process of realizing domestic mobile phone.
