Asic Design And Implementation Of Dvb-c, The Outer Code System

Digital High Definition Television (Digital HDTV),as the third era Television Standard,has become the focus of contest in the countries all over the world. It will affect the world's politics,economy and culture greatly. This paper focus on the principles of the outer code and implementation in ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuits) of DVB-C (Digital Vision Broadcasting - Cable) channel receiver.The circuitry of outer coder consists of data formation,data randomizer,RS encoder,and interleaver in the transmitter and their counterparts in receiver:data reverse transformer,de-randomizer,RS decoder and de-interleaver.In this paper,the first chapter gives an overview of HDTV,then focus on the DVB-C system,and then talks about the technology involved in ASIC. The second chapter contains the principle and key ASIC implementation of data transformer of DVB-C system. In the third chapter,the principles of randomizer and de-randomizer are illuminated,and the hardware realization is also given. The fourth chapter is focused on the design of IP (Intellectual Property)and the analysis of the principle of RS encoding and decoding. Based on the theory of design reuse in SOC (System on Chip),this chapter is devoted to the design and implementation of RS decoder IP which can be implied in three HDTV channel decoder standard. Then,gives the implementation of RS decoder of DVB-C system based on IP reuse. The real scale and the performance of the ASIC design are described. The fifth chapter treats the interleaver and de-interleaver. It also includes the hardware implementation. The last chapter discusses the ASIC design skill focus on synthesis-oriented design and DFT (Design for Test).The main contributions of this paper are proposing the algorithm and implementation on ASIC of outer code in DVB-C system,especially for the design and implementation of RS decoder IP which can be implied in three HDTV channel decoder standards,also discuss the ASIC design skills focused on synthesis-oriented design and DFT (Design for Test).
