Fear of security breaches has been a major reason for the business world' s reluctance to embrace the Internet as a viable means of communiation. A widely adopted solution consists of pysially separating private networks from the rest of Internet using firewalls. This paper discussed using the Internet Security protocol to construct a virtual private network instead of physical segregation. And How to design and construct an high throughout, more stability and secure VPN system is the goal of this design.A,t the beginning of this paper, we introduce the mostly used protocol for-VPNs. After introduce and analyzing the IPSec protocol and IKE protocol, we proposed a system modal for IPSec VPN, and design the main module of IPSec and IKE based on Linux OS, and proposed a system model of IPSec VPN.At the end of this paper , we compared the IPSec VPN with the other commonly used VPN protocol-MPLS VPN, and analyzing the benefit and shortcomings of each other. At last, we make a prospect of the future of IPSec VPNs.
